Juju Aquamoist C Hyaluronic Acid Whitening Essence

Contents: 30ml
Price: HK$149.00

According to the package:

A skin softening and refining serum provides both whitening and softening effects. With softer skin, ascorbyl glucoside, a potent whitening ingredient, is quickly absorbed, going deep into the skin's layers to lighten dark spots and even out complexion. Generous hydrators restore skin elasticity, bringing back skin's youthful feel. Follow with moisturizer for a velvety soft complexion.

Ingredients: Active ingredient : L- ascorbic acid 2-glucoside , glycyrrhizin dipotassium

Other ingredients : purified water , sodium hyaluronate ( 2 ) , concentrated glycerin , tetra- 2- hexyldecanoic ascorbyl , oil-soluble licorice extract ( 2 ) , 1,3-butylene glycol , ethanol , methyl phenyl polysiloxane , carboxyvinyl polymers , polyoxyethylene hardened castor oil , sodium hydroxide , sodium citrate , paraben

My Opinion:

I have this in the old packaging and it should look like this now, but I'm not sure if they have change the formula.

I don't use this on a daily basis, that's why one bottle would last me forever, and what I usually do is apply this before a paper mask, and I've noticed that it instantaneously adds a huge boost of hydration that no paper mask alone could achieve, at least not the cheap ones that I'm using.

I found that the Original Aquamoist Essence was more hydrating that this version, and since I don't use this often enough to notice any changes on my skin tone, I guess I won't be repurchasing.

My Opinion:

I was actually kind of surprise after using this product, because I've never really had much luck with L'oreal's skincare.

The morning after using this, I always notice brighter skin, and if I don't use it my skin looks dull.

Although this is an anti aging product, I've been using this for 3 weeks and I did not notice any anti aging effect, but it does improve skin tone.

Cautions
You may experience slight tingling sensation, light flaking, and/or mild redness after using this product. These conditions are normal and will diminish with time. Stop using if these conditions persist
For external use only, avoid direct contact with eyes
Store in a cool, dark place

Ingredients: Water, Mandelic Acid, Gamma Poly Glutamic Acid, Dimethyl Isosorbide, Gamma Polyglutamate, Butylene Glycol, Lactic Acid, Panthenol, Glycerin, Cucumber Flower Extract, Glyceryl Polyacrylate, Salicylic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Lactate, Sodium Hyaluronate, Menthol

My Opinion:

AHA, BHA, Retinol and all those acidic stuffs leaves my skin looking amazing, but recently my skin has been really sensitive and it won't take any of my usual stuffs, so I've done some googling and found out that mandelic acid was better suited for sensitive skin.

I've been using this product for nearly 2 weeks and it hasn't stopped purging, although it did not dry out my skin, I've been full of spots, I've read that it was normal, and that I should stick with the product for at least 4 weeks, but I'm kind of sick of breaking out all over.

So far I did not notice any improvement on my skin texture, but I'll stick with it for another week and keep you updated on my progress.

Skinfood Lettuce and Cucumber Water Drop Essence

Contents: 45g
Price: HK$245.00

According to Skinfood's webpage:

Water-based, it relaxes tired skin with water-rich lettuce and cucumber extracts, collagen and vitamin ingredients. Provides long lasting hydration and moisture retention on the skin.

My Opinion:

Another item that has been sitting on my drawer for ages, and I've never got around using it.

I don't really understand why I've never been a huge fan of Skinfood's skincare, because after going thru the list of skinfood's skincare producs that I've tried, I've ended liking alot of it and have actually repurchased several of the face masks.

I think the main reason that I don't purchase from Skinfood is because I've been dissapointed with most of their makeup products, and that's why I've been stirring away from this brand.

Anyway back to this product, it has a gel texture that once you rub it into your skin it turns watery and it gets absorb almost instantly. Great product for the hot and humid summer days, it feels really light on the skin and I've been using this almost daily.

My only complain is the container, the pump sucks and it has stopped working after using it twice, I 've ended up pouring the product straight out of the container. I'm unsure if I got a bad bottle or if all container sucks, but overall this is a really good product.

My Opinion:

I've never been a fan of caudalie's product, I've tried it in the stores several times and was always put off by the scent.

Around December Sasa always have a bunch of X'mas set, and this is usually a good time for me to stock up on skin care products. I've spotted this set and after reading so many raves about it on  Essie-Button's blog, I've decided to try it.

First off, I've only tried the serum and just like all others Caudalie's product it has the same scent which personally I do not like it, but someone might, so make sure you try it before getting.

While we were at the store I've tried it out on my hands and it got absorbed almost instantly while my friend with oily skin tried it out on her hands, it just sat on top and it took ages to be absorbed, the sales lady explained that I had really dehydrated skin and that's why it got absorbed immediately.

I've nearly finished my bottle and I have to admit that I've really enjoy using it, my skin has been peeling since I came back from Korea and none of my skincare products seems to be improving the situation. I've used this for 3 days and the peeling has finally stopped, I need 2 pumps day and night, and my skin loves it.

My only complain is that a bottle won't last you for too long, if you use it twice a day, it'll only last you for about 20 days. Although expensive I'll definetly repurchase.

It's Skin Prestige Serum D'Escargot

Contents:
Face Serum: 40ml
Eye Serum: 15ml
Price: HK$250.00
Local of Purchase: Moms & Moms

According to the package:

This special set contains a face serum and eye serum which promote anti-aging and restoring skin care benefits to your skin. Contains Musin essence that extracted from snail mucus, an ingredient with superior cell restoration, hydration and nourishment effects for improving various skin problems. These serums soften, hydrate and smooth out rough skin texture and fine lines on face and eye areas. It also contains EGF (epidermal growth factor) which helps to rejuvenate damaged and mature skin for young, supple and dewy appearance.

Snail is known to protect itself by recovering scars or cuts in short period of time. Its' repairing function inspires a Korean skin care brand - It's Skin, to produce a series of D'escargot products which are suitable for most skin types.

My Opinion:

I've started using this set around fall, and I've nearly finished it. Honestly, for something so inexpensive I was really impressed with the results and I'm definetly going to try out other products from this brand.

The face serum has a jelly texture that leaves your skin really smooth, and I've noticed that this would be great for someone with sensitive and acne prone skin, because my skin always gets irritated during fall/winter and this serum has definetly calm it down. Please note that the face serum is heavily scented, but it did not irritate my skin.

The eye serum has a cream texture and it has really hydrated my under eye area without causing any millia, definetly comparable to the some high end serums that I've tried before.

It's SYN-AKE Effector

Contents: 30ml
Price: Won 11,800.00
Local of Purchase: It's Skin (Korea)

According to It's skin's webpage:

Enriched serum that helps to strengthen resilience of skin with peptide which has similar structure with snake venom, and to repair wrinklesrepair wrinkles of skin with adenosine.

Formulated with synake, adenosine, baobab extract, prickly pear fruit extract, malt extract and filtrate from yeast fermentation.
High-enriched ampoule that gives elasticity and moisture, and provides healthy skin.

Instructions:
After using toner, apply a proper amount (about 2~3 fills with fountainpen filler) to face and neck. Let skin absorb it with gentle stroke.

Ingredients: Syn-Ake, adenosine, baobab extract,Indian fig extract, malt extract, lactobacillus fermentation, and yeast fermented filtered ingredient.

My Opinion:

I've initially though that this product really came from snake venom, and didn't really wanted to try, but after some googling and according to dailymail.co:

It's like Botox, but with a different kind of sting.
An anti-ageing cream with an active ingredient designed to mimic the effect of the venom of a temple viper is available on the high street for the first time.
Known as Syn-ake, the chemical aims to banish wrinkles as effectively as the face-freezing injections.

When I found out that Syn-ake is not actually snake venom I've decided to get a bottle, and after reading this article, was having really high expectations, hoping that it'll take a few years away from  me. Unfortunately after having used half a bottle, I did not notice any improvements at all....

I'll finish my bottle and keep you updated on the results, but I'm not having much hopes.

November 2013 Sample Attack

Although I've claimed that I do not intend to review samples on a monthly basis, I've recently found out that I had a drawer full of samples and I really do need to use them up. I though I might as well document it so that I can consult my blog on my next shopping trip.

Rodial Glamoxy Snake Serum - £127.00 / 25ml
No. of trials: 2

I was skeptical about snake serums, but I was also skeptical about snail skincare products, and now they are basically part of my daily beauty regime.
I've tried this twice and fell in love with the scent, it's the best citrusy scent that I've ever smell, but the product itself didn't really do much for me. I went to check out the rating for this product on makeupalley and it was pretty low, and since this product appears to be really expensive (retails for 127 pounds) I think I'll just skip it, but I might try out the Korean version which seems to be alot more affordable.

L'oreal Revitalift White Advanced Anti-Wrinkle & Spot Corrector Day Cream SPF18 - HK$189/50ml
No. of trials: 10

Although this is a day cream, it feels really thick and heavy on the skin, I've been applying a really thin layer and it stills feels heavy.

La Roche Posay Uvidea XL Cream Procelain SPF50 - HK$280/30ml
No. of trials: 3

Another product that feels super heavy on the skin, but I found that there is a lighter version, so I might want to try that next.

Swiss Program Caviar Lifting Eye Contour Cream - HK$747/15ml
No. of trials: 2

The lady at SASA was really generous by giving me 5 packets of this product which amounts to 10ml of products, unfortunately this didn't work for me, after using it only twice I've started to develop milia underneath my eyes, so I've stopped using it immediately.

Crabtree and Evelyn La Source Body Lotion - HK$225/8.5fl oz
No. of trials: 3 weeks

I had several tubes of this product, because it was included in the bathroom amenities of the hotel that I've stayed on my last trip. This is a really light lotion, and I think it'll only work for someone with really oily skin, it feels very watery and it gets absorbed almost instantly. This wasn't moisturizing enough for me.

ROC Multi-Correxion Anti-Age Moisturiser - HK$400/50ml
No. of trials: 1 week

It appears that most of the skincare products that I've tried this month were all too heavy for my taste, and this is another product that felt heavy, and it left my skin shiny.

Vitamin C Crystals

Contents: 8oz / 227g
Price: US9.55
Local of Purchase: iherb.com
Coupon code for $10 off your first purchase

According to iherb's webpage:

Description
  • Antioxidant Protection
  • Ascorbic Acid
  • 100% Pure Powder
  • Pharmaceutical (USP) Grade
  • GMP Quality Assured
  • A Dietary Supplement
  • Vegetarian Product

Ascorbic Acid is another name for Vitamin C. Vitamin C is a popular antioxidant and one of the most widely used vitamins in the world. Fine Ascorbic Acid is a bioavailable form of Vitamin C in a powder form, so it can be combined with other powdered supplements or dissolved in liquid for easy ingestion.

My Opinion:

I've been making my own Vitamin C serum, but wasn't really satisfy with the results and since I'm too lazy to mix a new batch every week, my vic c powder was left unused.

Recently I've read about the Philosophy Turbo Booster C Powder, which is basically a Vitamin C power that you mix with your moisturizer, and since I already have a bottle of Vic C powder, I've decided to mix it with my own moisturizer.

The first thing that you need to do is to find a moisturizer that will work with the powder, I've tried mixing it with my Boots Cucumber Oil Control Light Moisturiser UVA UVB Protection SPF15 , and it didn't work, it balls up, and I had to wash it off.

I've started to mix it with my Shills Moisturizing Gel, and for this time, the vic c powder did melt and it did not ball up.

When I've first started to use my own mixture it did sting, at least for the first 3 days, but the stinging started to diminish and now, after using this for over a month I don't even feel it.

I've been using this only in the morning for about a month, and my skin is now brighther and smoother, sun spots are definetly lighter, no irriation or breakouts. I've been spending a fortune on skin care products and it just amazes me how a bottle of Vitamin C Powder can achieve exactly the same thing.

SK-II Whitening Source Whitening Spot Specialist

Contents: 50ml
Price: HK$616.00
Local of Purchase: Sasa

This product is called SK-II Brightening Derm Specialist in the States and according to SK-II's webpage:

This brightening beauty essence is to help reduce the appearance of age spots, commonly caused by long term UV exposure. With continuous usage of the product, you will see naturally brighter, translucent skin.

My Opinion:

If you have been following my blog, you would know I swear by SK-II when it comes to whitening/brightening your skin.

I used to use SK-II Whitening Source Derm Definition to lighten my sun spots, but it got discontinued, and has been replaced by this product, although their ingredients list aren't identical they both works for me, and since both of this product contains Niacinamide, it should work on sun spots.

Whitening Source Derm Definition Ingredients: Water, Saccharomycopsis Ferment Filtrate, Niacinamide, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Pentylene Glycol, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Butylene Glycol, Dimethicone, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Flour, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Tocopherol, Faex (Yeast Extract/ Extrait De Levure), Dimethiconol, Sodium Metabisulfite, Glyceryl Stearate Citrate, Polysorbate 20, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Polyglyceryl-10 Oleate, Polyglyceryl-2 Oleate, Sodium Hydroxide, Disodium EDTA, Xanthan Gum, Methylparaben, Phenoxyethanol, Benzyl Alcohol, Sodium Benzoate

Whitening Source Whitening Spot Specialist Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate**, Glycerin, Aqua (Water), Polyethylene, Niacinamide, Butylene Glycol, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Dimethicone, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Panthenol, Propylene Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, Sodium Metabisulfite, Allantoin, Agarum Cribosum Extract, Zea Mays (Corn) Oil, DNA, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sodium Hydroxide, Titanium Dioxide, Alumina, PEG-10 Dimethicone Cross

After continuous use, I've also noticed that this product does help evening out my skin tone, so when I found out that Sasa was having a discount on this product, I've rushed out to get a back up. This product usually retails for HK$1,120.00 (almost half price), and the discount is available until the 6th of August, so if you are interested this is a good time to try it.

b.liv Off with those heads

Contents: 1.5 fl oz / 45ml
Price: HK$490.00
Local of Purchase: Sasa

According to Sasa's webpage:
B˙liv by Cellniq Off With Those Heads Blackheads Sebum Gel eliminates white and blackheads, removes oil secretion and gets rid of pore-clogging impurities. Leaves your skin clean and refreshed. The sebum ingredients such as tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil, witch hazel extract and aloe vera extract effectively handle the blemish skin. Suitable for clogged and combination skin.

how to use it
  1. Clean face.
  2. Apply sufficient amount of Off With Those Heads serum on your palm.
  3. Apply on T-zone areas or areas with black and whiteheads.
Remarks: Sensitive skin may experience mild stinging sensations.

Ingredients: Purified Water (Aqua), Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis) Extract, Witch Hazel (Hamamelis virginiana) Extract, Carbomer, Propylene Glycol, Menthol, Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) Oil, Poly(Oxy-1,2-Ethanediyl)Α-(Donyl Phenyl)-Ω-Hydroxy, Sodium Hydroxide, Peppermint (Metha piperita )Oil, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Diazolidinyl Urea.

My Opinion:

I don't have a huge problem with black heads, only around my nose, and I can get rid of those easily with a deep cleanse mask, I got this product mainly to try it out, without expecting much from it.

I've been using this product for nearly a month, for the first week I've noticed that my skin was oilier than usual, but since this was mentioned in the packaging I kept on using it.

On the second week I've noticed some serious clogged pores that I was unable to squeeze out, and I was ready to toss it, but since these clogged pores didn't turn into acnes, I've started to deep cleansing my skin more frequently (about 3 times per week), and that seems to diminish the problem.

I'm on the fourth week now, and I'm still having issues with clog pores, but the problem seems to be less dramatic than before, I'll try to finish off my tube but I don't think it did much for my skin.

Update 22nd September 2013:
I've been using this product for 2 months now and am about half way down my bottle, I no longer have problems with clogged pores and I'm free of black heads.

I still deep cleanse my face once or twice per week and have been very satisfy with the results, I just wasn't expecting to take so long to see any actual results, will definetly repurchase.

My Opinion:

I got this towards the end of the winter and have only used it for about 2 weeks, I took it with me on my last trip to Korea (this March) and remember loving it, because these were so easy to travel with and it has kept my skin well moisturized even in Korea's super dry and cold climate.

I was skeptical in the beginning, because facial oils always gives me black heads, and this product did not smell that good, so I was really surprise when it got absorbed almost instanly without leaving any film behind.

I didn't really wanted to write a review at this stage, because I usually review my products after using it for awhile longer, but as the weather is getting warmer I found this to be too heavy for my taste and  I left it in my bathroom cabinet.

Recently I was cleaning my cabinet and guess what I've found, molds were growing inside the container (disgusting...), I guess I didn't kept the container tight enough....

Although this is disgusting, I think I'll still repurchase another one this winter, but this time I'll make sure that I don't keep it in the bathroom and I'll definetly keep the container tightly shut.

ULTIMA II Extraordinaire Supreme Pure Collagen Perfect Skin Resurfacing Treatment

Price: HK$3,504
Contents: 6 bottles sets +3 black bottles free+ 1 gold bottle free

Ultima II doesn't have a webpage, so this review is only my personal opinion on the product.

Before I start reviewing this product, I think we all should be aware that collagen is a molecule that is too big to penetrate into the skin, in other words, as a topical treatment it doesn't penetrate deep enough into your skin to have any effect.

If collagen doesn't work than why did I get this product? The answer is simple, I've only started researching after getting this product (dumb, I know).

Anyway, I've already finish 3 bottles (a bottle will last you for about a week), and surprisingly I did like how it felt on my skin. This is a very light serum that absorbs instantly and it left my skin smooth and hydrated.

Although I did like the feel of this product I don't think I'll be repurchasing, because for what it does I do consider it very expensive.
